Let's Stop the Nonsense: The Titans Are the Worst Franchise in the NFL

John Fredericks says Sunday's 23-10 home loss to the Jets exposed a Titans franchise with no answers on offense, defense or special teams.

Let's stop the nonsense.

The Tennessee Titans are the worst franchise in the National Football League.

Their total home humiliation at the hands of the New York Jets was not merely a loss. It was an organizational indictment: a televised autopsy of a franchise with no direction, no identity and apparently no clue.

The clown car Robert Saleh and Brian Daboll rolled onto the Nissan Stadium turf Sunday was completely inept.

Laurel and Hardy could have produced a better game plan.

The Titans' offense was practically nonexistent. Cam Ward spent the afternoon running for his life behind an offensive line that appeared incapable of blocking anybody wearing a different-colored jersey. When Ward finally escaped the pass rush and delivered a catchable football, his receivers frequently dropped it.

Ward wasn't playing quarterback. He was participating in an extended survival drill.

The Titans managed only three points through three quarters. At that stage, they had been outgained 335–114, produced only six first downs and possessed the football for just 17 minutes. Ward was 11-of-20 for a microscopic 74 yards. Let that sink in. 74 yards.

The Jets, meanwhile, had already rolled up 209 passing yards and 126 rushing yards.

Those numbers aren't merely bad. They're downright embarrassing.

Tennessee's defensive front was overpowered in the trenches and its secondary was riddled by 35-year-old Geno Smith, who stood comfortably in the pocket throwing dimes while facing virtually no pressure. The Titans made Smith look like Joe Montana in his prime.

Breece Hall ran through Tennessee's defense. Garrett Wilson ran around it. Geno Smith threw over it.

And the Titans apparently had no answer for any of them.

The special teams weren't any better. Punts into the end zone, a fumbled kickoff return, a kickoff kicked out of bounds.

When every phase of your football operation looks confused, unprepared and overmatched, that isn't bad luck. That is bad coaching, bad roster construction and bad organizational leadership.

By the third quarter, the Nissan Stadium boo-birds were out, and deservedly so. Titans fans have been sold another offseason of empty promises, recycled talking points and manufactured optimism. They were told a new coaching staff would bring discipline, creativity and credibility.

What they got was a circus.

This was supposed to be the beginning of a new era. Instead, head coach Robert Saleh and OC Brian Daboll turned their Titans debut into one of the most humiliating afternoons Nashville football has ever experienced.

Against the Jets!

These weren't the Lombardi Packers. The Jets entered the season after going 3–14 themselves. Yet they walked into Nashville and pushed the Titans around like a junior-varsity team.

If this is Tennessee's new beginning, I'd hate to see the ending.

After one game, Titans fans are already studying the top prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft. This looks like a 1–16 team if everything breaks right.

And yes, 0–17 is absolutely on the table.

That brings us to owner Amy Adams Strunk.

Titans ownership wants loyal fans to spend tens of thousands of dollars on personal seat licenses and season tickets for the new stadium. For what? The privilege of watching this rudderless franchise get publicly humiliated from a more expensive seat?

Fans are being asked to finance a palace while ownership fields a pauper.

Before demanding premium prices, perhaps ownership should deliver something resembling a premium NFL organization. Nashville deserves competence. Titans fans deserve accountability. Cam Ward deserves protection and a legitimate opportunity to develop.

Instead, everybody received another bucket of excuses.

The Tennessee Titans are a joke without a punch line: a billion-dollar clown show asking its customers to pay luxury prices for football malpractice.

Burn the excuses. Burn the happy talk.

This franchise is in complete disarray.
